Veelo Technologies will introduce an innovative new out-of-autoclave (OoA) heated tool for composite processing at CAMX 2022. HyVarCVeeloHEAT is the new technology and is a hybrid Invar and composite mold with integrated VeeloHEAT® technology. It was created through a collaborative effort between Veelo and Ascent Aerospace.
HyVarCVeeloHEAT combines Ascent’s patented HyVARC® tool with Veelo’s VeeloHEAT advanced heating technology. HyVARC is a composite mold that combines a thin Invar backup structure and facesheet with a bonded, high-temperature composite working surface. VeeloHEAT is a comformable, drapable material that fits complex geometries and provides a highly uniform and controlled heat source. The result is an Invar structure with a composite working surface and integrated heating with a temperature range of up to 375° F.
The tool is 50% lighter than a traditional Invar layup mold while maintaining superior vacuum integrity and dimensional precision. The hybrid mold capitalizes on the desirable performance characteristics of Invar and composites to offer an ideal layup mold for prototype aerospace parts.
The new technology lowers capital and processing costs vs. traditional autoclaves and reduces the overall operating footprint. It results in faster processing times and rapid prototyping capabilities.
The new technology will be featured at Veelo Technologies’ booth #S58 at CAMX 2022, held October 17-20 in Anaheim, California.
